    פִּיטְמָאII, פִּיטְמָה, פִּטְ׳ f. (פָּטַם 1) (pestle, mortar) a protuberance on the blossom-end of fruits having the appearance of a pestle seated in a mortar (cmp. בּוּכְנָה); the upper portion of a fruit, v. פִּיטּוֹמֶת. Succ.III, 6 נטלה פִטְמָתוֹ if the pestlelike protuberance of an Ethrog is taken out; expl. Y. ib. III, 53d תמן אמרין שושנתו there (in Babylonia) they say, ‘its lily; Bab. ib. 35b, v. בּוּכְנָה (v. Rashi a. l.). Y.Kil.I, 27a top פיטמה של אבטיח (v. מְעָה) the upper portion of a melon (containing the carpels). Ukts. II, 3 הפיטמא של רמון (ed. Dehr. הפטמה) the top-piece of a pomegranate.
